Supper and Sensory Herbal experience

Garden herbs - their delicious healing and restorative power - are the focus of our next soiree.

We are inviting you to our peaceful Dacha with the garden to learn - and taste - the aromas, flavours and rituals of the herb garden.

We grew up in the 'New East' with our mums telling us to eat our 'vitamichiki' in the summer, and only now we are realising how much wisdom - and flavour - there is in their advice.

Vicky from Handmade Apothecary will take us through a sensory herbal meditation and teach us how to make a couple of tea/infusions from easily available herbs.

We, Rosehip + Rye, will share some simple ways for using up herbs (and their stalks!) in tasty ways and feed you a meal where a herb is a queen.

Menu:

Drinks: welcome glass of rosehip bubbly +
Our garden melissa lemonade

Sciasciastorey sourdough bread with lyok herby dip

Crème fraiche and garden herbs roast chicken

(thanks to Olia Hercules' recipe)

‘Young’ potatoes with peas and mint

Vitaminchiki salad

Beetroot tops

Allotment salad with R+R dressing

~

Apricot ice-cream (home-made) with lavender short-bread

~

What to expect during the evening:

Start with a little walk in our wild allotment garden *

Sip a glass of chilled rosehip bubbly

Help yourself to the dishes from our large dining table

Sit down to listen to Vicky's stories and tips, whilst enjoying the meal

Breath, relax and smile...

About Handmade Apothecary: Vicky had spent 7 years at Neal's Yard Remedies and started the project (together with her friend Kim) as a way to share herbal medicine with local communities. She now lives close to the allotment garden at the Queens Park Cafe and looks after it. She runs events and teaches people on using the plants to create healing remedies and recipes.

NB: £1.50 of the ticket price is donated to the Cafe with its magical allotment.

* the walk in the garden is optional. arrive 10-15 mins before the event and walk round the cafe to find this tranquil place.
